In Her Bedroom

A quick and simple  layout  today, to round out my 5 layouts for January :)
(YIPPPEEE for ticking that one off my to-do list- I wonder if I can do it again in February?)

I've had these papers in my stash for quite a while...they are from the Jack 'n' Jill Collection by Prima. Funnily enough, I own very little Prima...it's a brand that I find a bit over-the-top flowery and generally not my style at all, but I loved the cute little people in this particular range :)

I fussy cut this little girl from one of the papers...she has such a cute innocence about her, don't you think?
This page documents my younger daughters bedroom...a much different room to that of her older sisters that you saw a few posts back. We hope to redecorate this one soon, so I thought it would be great to record what it looks like right now. It's all about Lalaloopsies at age eight :)

Hope you are having an awesome day!

Moments that matter the most.

I love it when a scrapbook page just comes together....it happens so rarely around here that it is truly something to be celebrated!

I woke early, poured my first cup of tea, made my way to my craft desk, and pulled the top photo off the pile sitting on my desk. I grabbed some paper that matched, which luckily was in a kit and had matching embellishments. I knew as soon as I saw the hexagons what I was going to do with them, and instead of second guessing myself, I just did it!

I sewed around the fussy cut hexies to add some texture, sewed a bit more, and stuck it all down....all before 8am :)

The paper pack is called Sweet Day by Echo Park, and is really very lovely.

So that's scrapbook layout number 4 for January...how I love ticking those to-dos off my list!

Have a wonderful day, and thank you for visiting.

Project Life 2013 - Week Four

Hello Week Four...already?

This week was all about the red, white and blue for Australia Day!

Since I had quite a few photos from Australia Day that I wanted to include, and found some great free printables from Lovely Living ,I decided to just go with those colours for the whole spread :)

The left side documented the first part of our week, so I kept the Australia-themed goodies to a minimum.
Grumpy Cat simply had to rate a mention this week...oh my, he makes me laugh! Each day I am updated with Grumpy Cat memes from my darling son, who finds him just as amusing as me LOL.

The right side is all Australia Day based...from what we ate for breakfast, to Triple J's Hottest 100, to the Perth Skyworks that we attended in the evening.

The free printables were actually designed for 2012, but some strategically placed number stickers fixed that very easily :)

So that was Week Four...another week documented, and the first month of the year almost over. Wow.

Thanks so much for all of your lovely comments here recently...I have really enjoyed popping back to visit you and finding some great new blogs to read along the way :) A special hello to my new followers too...welcome!

Whimsy Farm Twine Love :)

Today I've had the pleasure of playing with some beautiful twine from Whimsy Farm Twine, an Australian  business producing the cutest colour combinations of twine I have ever seen!

Twine is one of my favourite things...I use it for gift wrapping, for card making, for scrapbooking...it really is one of the most versatile products in my craft room! While I would love my collection to be a whole lot bigger, up until now the cost of twine produced overseas was enough to pull me up...but not anymore!

A 100 metre roll of Whimsy Farm Twine costs just $5, and postage is a flat rate of $8 to anywhere in Australia...and the packaging is rather cute too :)

Angie is always coming up with new colour combinations for her twine...choosing is the hardest part! I couldn't go past Annabelle, which is a combination of white, pink and turquoise...mmmmmmm yummy.

I used the list of everyday simple things from my blog post the other day to create a layout...makes for very easy journaling, and a great snapshot of life right now.The two large journal cards are from Snap Life by Simple Stories ;)
I used the twine to embellish some of the smaller details...it is a really nice weight to tie bows, not too thick!

Twine is a great way to add pops of colour onto your layout, and also to add continuity across your page...it's an easy way to tie all your embellishments together.

I am so thrilled to have finally sourced an affordable, quality, Australian made twine...now I had better go and hide my credit card ;)

Disclaimer: Whimsy Farm Twine provided me with a roll of twine to road-test...all opinions and photographs are my own.

Farmers Wife - The Australia Day Edition

Happy Australia Day my bloggy friends!

No matter where in the world you live, your day today will be improved with the addition of lamingtons and Tim Tams...I guarantee it  :)

Working towards my goal of 10 Farmers Wife blocks for the month of January has been slow-going. I've had these ones cut out for over a week now, and had real problems finding the motivation to sew them. Only the realisation that the month is almost over, and I still have quite a few to make yet, got me moving (and a TimTam or two LOL)!

So here we have Block 93 Swallow...
...a quite subdued block, but I've almost run out of single-print options for my blocks.

Block 94 Tall Pine Tree...
...the photo colour is WAY off...there's always one photo that doesn't want to play nice ;)

Block 95 Temperance Tree...

...and the last block you'll see that orange spot fabric in, as I have run out :(

Right about now, I'm wishing I had gone in numerical order with these blocks, because that would mean I'm almost finished hahaha! Alas, no.

Hope you're out enjoying the sunshine, cooking a barbie, eating some lamingtons and having a cold bevie or two!

Project Life 2013 - Week 3

Hello Project Life Week 3...a week created using Snap Life by Simple Stories, quite possibly the cutest scrapbook line ever :)
Check out the title card...
...I added the number stickers to reflect the dates, the brackets and the other alpha stickers, ALL from Snap Life...the hardest part was choosing which elements to use!

So bright and colourful, and it all just goes together. I did add a few journal cards from my PL kit, but otherwise it's pretty much all Snap Life. I had the collage print below printed at KMart, cut it down and adhered it to a plain 4x6 card, along with alphas, day-of-the-week sticker and Snap Life sticker.

The right side is just as colourful, and a mixture of Snap Life and PL. The transparencies were adhered with my Tim Holtz tiny attacher.

During the week, we tried out a new-to-us Chinese takeaway, so I created a pocket for the menu by stapling half a journal card to a full card and added some more Snap Life goodness...too easy.

Inside the menu, I used the PL arrow stickers to show what dishes we ordered :)
Love that I finally recorded this little story of my teenage son and our daily conversation regarding his teeth cleaning (or lack thereof)...we'll laugh about this one day ;)

So that was Week 3..

...another very ordinary, very happy week in the life of us :)

So far, I am really loving my PL journey this year. I've recommitted to keeping up with it, and taking photos has become second nature...I even have my family suggesting I capture certain moments for PL!

How are you going with it so far? If it's your first year....hang in there! It does take a little while to get into the groove, but so worth it ;)

Have a wonderful week

Scandinavian Rose...Block Two

Thought I'd share my progress on Scandinavian Rose today...it's my little (ok, big) project that I work on almost every day...love it!

It's amazing how quickly those little snippets of time add up. I usually just cut one length  of cotton, divide it into three lots of two strands, and stitch that while drinking my morning cup of tea. Most days, that's all the attention this project gets.

The real question now is...can I wait until the end of the month clicks over before I start Block Three?

Enjoy your Sunday

The 12 Months Of Christmas - January Edition and Order of Work

Firstly, can I just say...I am so so excited about our 12 Months Of Christmas project!

Thank you to our wonderful friends, old and new,  who have decided to join in with Tracey, Linda and I in creating a Christmas project each month in 2013. Hopefully by the time December rolls around, we will all be feeling a little more prepared, and ready to celebrate a wonderful, handcrafted Christmas :)

Since January is a month of planning, it is totally optional for you to work on a project this month....HOLD ON, it's totally optional every month :) This group is all about you...you make what you'd like to make each month. We are just here to offer encouragement, hopefully some inspiration, and to share what we are making. What you choose to create is totally up to you ;)
For my January project, I decided  to make up some clock Christmas ornaments which were designed by the  Sweetwater girls a few years back ...the labels have been sitting in my craft room ever since.

Of course, once I set my mind to actually making them, they were quite a quick and easy project.

The labels came as a set of six, but my sixth clock is still drying on my clothesline, after I realised I had pricked my finger while handstitching the opening closed, and bled all over it...LOL...not a very festive look ;)

The girls and I had a little brainstorming session about what we'd like to make this year, and came up with the following list for the first half of the year:

FEBRUARY : Christmas Tree Skirt

MARCH: Christmas Table Runner

APRIL: Christmas stockings

MAY: Advent calendar OR square table topper

JUNE: Catch up month (we are all doing a Mystery BOM through the Fat Quarter Shop, so will be using June to complete that, and work on anything else that needs finishing!)

There are some fabulous Christmas Tree Skirt patterns floating around the internet...here are links to some of our favourites:

I had in my mind an image of a skirt with appliqued houses, and after much searching I found it in the 2005 Christmas In July issue of Homespun magazine:

So this is the pattern I'll be attempting (but with my own, polkadottie twist to it)...thank goodness we have included a catch-up month!

So now is the time to take a look around, have a think about what you'd like to make, and start preparing for your February project...it will be here before we know it :)

Happy planning

Everyday simple things.

I was out of bed very early this morning.

There is nothing quite like that time of the morning, when the rest of the house is still asleep (minus the husband  you've just dropped at the airport), and you're drinking your first cup of tea, and sewing your first (and sometimes only)stitches of the day...it is so peaceful and calm and  perfect for pondering :)

While doing all of the above this morning, my eyes rested on my new copy of The Simple Things (have you checked out this magazine yet? It's made by the same people as Mollie Makes, and is really really good)

I flipped it over to the back, and the blurb was a list of everyday simple things that bring the writer joy. Things like spotting a friend in a crowd and watching films on a Sunday afternoon...simple stuff.

Of course, that got me thinking about things that make me happy...everyday simple things that make my heart sing and bring a smile to my face. Have you ever stopped to write a list? Once I started, I just couldn't stop :)

A spoonful of butter melting into warm toast.

A steaming hot shower.

Unexpected happy mail.

Bubbles.

A strong cup of tea in a polkdot mug.

A wagging tail at the back door.

A text from my husband.

Wandering through the grocery aisles, all by myself.

The clink of the spoon on my icecream bowl.

An empty ironing basket.

Giggling children.

Catching up on my favourite blogs.

Stitching while dangling my feet in the pool.

Sliding into crisp clean sheets on a freshly made bed.

That new book smell as you open the first page.

The cry of "Mummy!" when I walk in the front door.

The anticipation of a new week.

The chocolate tip at the bottom of a Drumstick cone.

And this was just the beginning...there sure is a lot to be grateful for.

Maybe you could try making a list of simple things yourself? It only takes a minute...or it can take all day if you prefer :)

Have a beautiful, blessed day

In her room...

Playing with paper and doilies and punches and pretty things is so much fun...I think I must've forgotten just how much fun :)

With Project Life, I try to have my photos printed at K-Mart each week...not that I would recommend K-Mart for photo printing at all, but they are my only local photo lab. Anyhoo, sometimes when I print my PL photos, I have a few extra photos done too, just in case I want to do some scrapbooking. In 2012, these photos piled up and piled up...but not this year. This year, they will be the photos I reach for when I make my 5 layouts per month :) Sound like a good plan?

I thoroughly cleaned and sorted my two girls' rooms last week (HUUUGE job), and took some photos while they were nice and tidy. I thought it would be nice to have a record of what their bedrooms look like now, as I'm thinking it won't be long before the Lalaloopsies and soft toys are replaced with...other not-so-cute things :)

I created the banner with a Stampin Up banner punch and a doily, and topped them with some vintage Prima flowers...remember those cute bottles that Prima released way back in the beginning?...and a Kaiser pearl. I got a little carried away with the machine stitching, but was loving the soft feminine touch it gave to the layout. The floral paper is Sweet Thoughts from the Floral Lane collection by Pebbles, and has a Bazzill-like texture...unusual, but yummy. The polkadots are from Echo Park Dots and Stripes Neopolitan Collection...yes, they have different collections of polkadot papers, and yes, I have several of those collections...SURPRISE! LOL :)

Feels good to be scrapping again ;)

Project Life 2012 - Week Two and a little stitching :)

Hello Week Two...how weird it feels to be typing that after being in the Week Fifties just a while ago :)

I  well and truly recovered from my PL stage fright of Week One, and dived head first into my Olive Kit for this weeks pages...how gorgeous are the greens and pinks? And chevrons? Yummy.

I've had no problems filling the pages with photos, as we are still in school holidays here in Australia and the kids are around every day, sometimes with friends...prime photo opportunities!

Embellishments were found in my little containers again...seriously wondering why I didn't think of doing this years ago. It's inspiring! I stamped some journal boxes to place on top of the photos, and used my Cuttlebug to cut some journal shapes and letters as well...trying to use some of my tools a bit more ;)

Quite a bit of journaling made it onto the actual cards, and a little more inside the long journaler. There is good variety of cards to choose from in the Olive Kit, and I'm envisaging lots of different colour combinations in just that kit alone.
I'm trying to squeeze every last bit of crafting that I can out of my holidays...I go back to work mid-week, and I can feel that clock ticking!

Knocking over the Mystery Block of the Month was a must...they seem to arrive so quickly, and are so fun to make. This one was designed by Sandy Gervais and is called Moonlight Serenade.

It came together really nicely, and I love the simplicity of the red polkadots with the other prints...but then, we all know how I love red polkadots!

Hope you are keeping cool and staying safe...my thoughts are with all those threatened by fires in this hot hot country of ours...scary times :(

Sometimes it's hard.

I'd really like to scrapbook more in 2013.

Apart from the obvious reasons for scrapbooking (which are recording memories for myself and my family, and because I enjoy it)  it is becoming obvious that I have a little, shall we say... issue...with buying pretty paper. Even when I'm not scrapbooking much at all, like in 2012, I still like to buy pretty paper....lots of pretty paper, and storage is now becoming an issue :)

So, five layouts per month are now on my to-do list, and I'm going to try really hard to make that many each month. Wish me luck?

Here is number one for 2013...appropriately named "sometimes it's hard" ;)

This photo has been printed and sitting on my desk for almost 12 months, so it was an easy target to get onto a scrapbook page :)

Once I'd picked out a background paper...So Sweet from Echo Park's new collection Love Story...I reached into my little containers of leftover embellishments that I've been telling you about, and found this sticker which I think is by Basic Grey ( can I hear a WOOOHOOOO  for stash busting!)

I let the colours in it dictate my colour scheme for the layout...and love how they worked :)

You should be able to read the journaling if you click on the image. This photo hurts my heart a little, but scrapbooking for me is about keeping it real, and recording the good as well as the not-so-good. Life is not always sunshine and lollipops, right?

Best go and clean off my desk...I forgot how messy it gets when I scrapbook :)

Have a great evening...and a FANTASTIC week!
